All business, banks, stores were CLOSED in Munich for the holiday. We wandered from our hotel to Marienplatz to see the street scene which was alive with street muscians and the glockenspiel played at 5pm.
But the real attraction was our pilgrimage to the Hofbräuhaus! So yes, I had to lift a stein also, as we toasted Andy! Prost!!
The costumes, the umpah band, the bratwurtz, pretzels, mustard, and the boistrous crowds. That was Munich !!

Good beer. I hit up the one in Vegas everytime I go. The one in Munich holds fond memories. Every night having one or two and then trying to walk and talk 10 minutes back to our hotel.
The place was packed everytime I was in there, and we would sit out on the patio.
toast to me too!! I once had a 2 hour conversation with a 2 old german men there. Drew pictures on all the coasters! I like the radler. (half beer, half sprite) called a chandee in other places.
good thing mom didnt know about that drink. She will mess up a perfect drink by putting ice and sprite in it. In the words of Gob: “CMON!” youre in italy, sprite and ice in your wine???….
Was the sausage good? Mmm… I want to get a big pretzel and something savory right now. Ok, I must be hungry but I want to know, “Which country had the BEST food overall?” If Italy is the answer (and who could blame you if it is), then which has the second best?
good question, lisa. Definitely Italy. the second would be the cooking Carl did for us at Gails…an amazing cook! all other cuisines have their strong points, but saurkraut???
