What a great day! Our awesome driver, Alessandro, picked us up on our doorstep and whisked us off to a day of wineries, meandering, and gorgeous scenery.
We visited the Caparzo Winery for a great, informative tour (with the cutest guy) and tasting! All of the famous Brunello di Montalcino wines must age a minimum of 5 years and only contain sangovese grosso grapes from the immediate area! Then we toured the Barbi Winery and indulged again. We had a mighty fine lunch on their property including an awesome “bread soup,” taglietelle, and sausage with white beans. We REALLY got into this.
We were ferried to Montapulciano and dropped off at the top of the hill-city, so we could meander down. Another unique, but totally Tuscan outing. Steve didn’t have to drive and we were escorted via Alessandro’s Mercedes mini-van on rolling hills outlined in cypress and vineyards. Viva ITALIA!

Silly Steve
What Fun!!! But Steve, you have to pace yourself when drinking wine. This looks far too much to have in one evening, besides too much of a good thing and all that. Also, I have noticed it can cause slight headaches, not speaking from experience, of course. Enjoy.
Just to let you know this was at the 1st winery we went to at 10:30 AM. You should have seen me in the afternoon!!!
Hi Debbie and Steve,
We have been following your fabulous travel adventures and are drooling with envy!! Our thoughts have been with you so much and we are thrilled that you are having such a wonderful time!! We have been to and spent time in so many of the places that you write about!! Isn’t the countryside absolutely gorgeous???? And the wineries a blast??? We loved all the little hill top towns and obscure places!! Merle says you should try to go to Luca…it is northwest of Cinque Terra and is a walled city. We rented bicycles and rode all around on the top of the wall which is made for bike riding and runners, etc.! Debbie, what a thrill to get to play the organ! And we loved the picture of Steve laying on the ground trying to catch the “drips” from the wine vat!!! We love hearing from you!!
Merle’s hip is recovering nicely, we leave to visit Matt and family in Tennessee next month, Bonnie is working full time now at Rancho Financial, we are getting our kitchen and baths remodeled and our bridge groups miss you!!
Other than Obama running our country into the ground, and Nancy Pelosi being pregnant (just kidding), nothing here is as exciting as hearing about all the blessings you are receiving from your travel and the friendships you are making along the way!!
Love and Prayers, Merle and Carol
